Cash-book for Woodhouselee, Midlothian, 1827-1834, 1844-1855, containing detailed accounts of expenditure by the gardeners, with a journal, January 1827-May 1834, on inverted pages, giving brief particulars of the daily work of the two permanent gardeners.
Many of the entries in the cash-book relate to transport tolls and the employment of occasional labour. Some are concerned with minor repairs to the mansion house.

Warren Hastings Anderson entered the merchant house of his uncle, Robert Anderson and Company, St. Andrew's Square, Edinburgh, in 1813, becoming a partner in 1818. From then until the 1850s he spent most of his life in Italy and France engaged in trade, finally retiring to Bowerhouse near Dunbar. Family, personal and legal material predominates in this collection.

The contents consist chiefly of the papers of Charles Hunter, Cadet, of Seaside and relating in particular to the sale of his estates in 1848. Also papers of his son, Andrew Hunter, Coffee Planter, Ceylon. Andrew Hunter's papers are of considerable interest providing some useful material for plantation management and colonial life in the Ceylon of the early 1860's.

Diary of Walter Scott, farmer at Nether Bonchester, Roxburghshire.
The entries date from Walter Scott's acquisition of the property in May 1730, where an account is given of the conditions of the transaction, and break off in March 1743. They consist of memoranda concerning the management of the farm, such as details of the hiring of labour and the sowing and harvesting of crops, transactions with other farmers, and miscellaneous accounts.
